One of them, Vadim Kutsenko, was beaten and tasered by men who identified themselves as officers of Russia&#8217;s National Guard, his lawyer Artur Ganin told The Associated Press.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153They handcuffed him, put a hat on his head and over his eyes and drove him away in an unknown direction,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Ganin said in a phone interview Friday. He said officers brought Kutsenko to a forest, where they choked, beat and tasered him, trying to extract a confession.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00c2<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.abcnews.com\/images\/International\/WireAP_127bda90eb3e4e01bfa06eadc8872594_16x9_1600.jpg\" width=\"750\" height=\"422\" border=\"0\" \/>\u00c2<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153He is currently in custody \u00e2\u20ac\u201d in pain and worried about his family, because he was threatened that something could happen to his wife,&#8221; Ganin said.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Guard did not respond to a request for comment.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Russia officially banned Jehovah&#8217;s Witnesses in 2017 and declared the group an extremist organization. The Kremlin has actively used vaguely worded extremism laws to crack down on opposition activists and religious minorities.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Since then, hundreds of members have been subjected to raids, arrests and prosecution.
