Governing Body member John (Jack) Barr has died (or, “completed his earthly course”) on Saturday, December 4, 2010.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Bro Barr died at Walkill aged 97 after 71 years of full time service – 23 years as a member of the Governing Body in New York.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Born: August 13, 1913 in Aberdeen, Scotland, into a family of International Bible Students<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/div>\n
His grandmother \u00c9milie Jewell was baptized in 1908 and the father was baptized in 1912.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
Bro Barr had a brother called James and a sister called Louie who were older than himself.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
They were the only “Bible Students” family in North Scotland.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n

\u00a0<\/div>\n
Bro Barr finished school in 1932 and was baptized a Jehovah’s Witness shortly after that.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
He became a member of the Bethel family in April 1939.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
After that he served three years as a circuit overseer and returned to Bethel in April 1946.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
On October 29, 1960 he married Mildred Willett, a long time pioneer who graduated from the 11th Gilead class and who served in Ireland.\u00a0<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
In September 1977 Bro Barr was called to the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses.<\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
From that time on, he lived in the headquarters of the organization, in Brooklyn, New York,<\/div>\n
