A herd at the Munich zoo lost one of their own this week. Three-month old Lola was born with a heart defect. The calf was to undergo surgery but passed away during a preliminary scan.
What makes this remarkable is that elephants have an amazing respect for their dead so when staff at the zoo brought a lifeless Lola back to the herd, they all fathered to pay respect. Each of them touching Lola’s body with their trunks.
