Brother Barr has completed his earthly course

Governing Body member John (Jack) Barr has died (or, “completed his earthly course”) on Saturday, December 4, 2010.
 
Bro Barr died at Walkill aged 97 after 71 years of full time service – 23 years as a member of the Governing Body in New York. 
 
Born: August 13, 1913 in Aberdeen, Scotland, into a family of International Bible Students

His grandmother Émilie Jewell was baptized in 1908 and the father was baptized in 1912. 
 
Bro Barr had a brother called James and a sister called Louie who were older than himself. 
 
They were the only “Bible Students” family in North Scotland. 
 
 
Bro Barr finished school in 1932 and was baptized a Jehovah’s Witness shortly after that. 
 
He became a member of the Bethel family in April 1939. 
 
After that he served three years as a circuit overseer and returned to Bethel in April 1946. 
 
On October 29, 1960 he married Mildred Willett, a long time pioneer who graduated from the 11th Gilead class and who served in Ireland. 
 
In September 1977 Bro Barr was called to the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
 
From that time on, he lived in the headquarters of the organization, in Brooklyn, New York,
