One week after hurricane Sandy many of our brothers and sisters remain in dire straights. The have no power, water, or heat. To complicate things, temperatures are in the upper 20’s F at night and we are now bracing for another storm on Wed/Thur of this week. Making matters even worse, some of these areas become quite dangerous at night. There is total lack of power so there are no lights anywhere. Looters are rampant. This situation has made it common to see people armed with knives, bats, guns and even bow and arrow to protect what little property they have left.
Imagine the situation of your brothers and sisters here who have lost everything, as most were only able to salvage a few articles of clothing. Relief efforts have been hampered by lack of fuel in the region but the DRC and RBC’s are doing all they can to assist.
Below are just a few pictures of those working the relief and a little of the devastation they face. I tried not to include too many of the latter, or the worst ones as they are simply too heart wrenching for many. If you are in a position to send supplies or funds…or even volunteer your time or trades to this effort please prayerfully consider doing so as it is all desperately needed. Even if circumstances prevent it for now, please know that this recovery will take months. Even if you can’t do any of the above, do not forget these dear ones, and those working so hard to help them, in your prayers.
